Ponte Nomentano

Situated at the third mile of the Via Nomentano from which it takes its name, the Nomentano bridge is the second crossing of the Aniene river, north east of Rome. Together with the Milvio bridge, it was among the most important bridges outside the city.

It has remained intact, as it was at the time of works carried out in the 15th Century and today it has degenerated greatly. The lowered arches and the galleries supported by travertine slabs are impressive. It is a characteristic example of a bridge having strategic/military functions rather than vehicle transport and with scarce surrounding urbanization.
