In 1916, Republican tombs were found at the intersection of via Statilia, going back to 100 BC and subsequently buried during the next century.
The oldest tomb has a facade of tuff blocks and a central door, flanked by two round shields taken from the facade blocks.
Engraved with the names of its owners, the small funerary chamber partly cut out of the rock, is covered by an irregular vault in cement. The adjacent tombs and the columbarium are more recent (early first century BC) constructions.
The complex is interesting as it is easy to understand how the change, from the tomb-chamber to the isolated monument types, came about.
