Ninfeo degli Annibaldi

The nymphaeum was discovered in 1895 during works for the construction of a street with the same name and is cut in half by a supporting street wall.

Originally semi-elliptical, the nymphaeum had a central bath and was decorated with niches, four of which remain visible, above clypeuses and pilasters. The curved wall is decorated with a country-style mosaic. The pilaster strips are embellished with rows of tiny seashells and the larger ones are embedded in the center. The capitals and cornices are shaped in the same way. Other decorations were made in mother-of-pearl and enamel, with fragments of pumice stone and gravel.

The monument dates back to between the end of the Republican Age and the Augustinian period. Later a supporting brick wall was built and can be seen on the right.

In 1986, the Ripartizione X of the Comune di Roma, completely repaired the walls to halt the degeneration of the decorations.
