The wish to create a great Scientific Museum in Rome was expressed by the Municipal Administration in 1998 and was followed by the creation of a Unitā Organizzariva Musei Scientifici within the Sovraintendenza, directed by Dr. Vincenzo Vomero.
A Scientific Committee of experts, directed by Prof. Antonio Ruberti, defined the guide lines of the project and a tender has been issued to the assign a Feasibility Study of the contents of the future museum.
After Ruberti died, the Committee presided by Prof. Carlo Bernardini, continued to work on the project.
The area has been found where the Ciitā della Scienza is to be located the Ostiense Gazometro.
The negotiations for the purchase of 8 hectares of ground are at present in course and the tender will shortly begin to define the organizational forms and structures for its management as well as the international architectural competition for the planning of the spaces for the future museum.
