Deposito Pleistocenico di Rebibbia Casal de' Pazzi

The site of the Rebibbia Casal de’ Pazzi lies between Via Nomentana and Via Tiburtina, not far from the Aniene River and numerous other paleolithic sites to be found all over the last part.

It was identified by chance during the construction of the road given in the map of the area. The stratigraphic excavation covering an area of over 1,200 square meters was executed by the Sovraintendenza Archeologica of Rome from 1981 to 1986 and brought to light the antique bed of the Aniene river, which may be dated back to 200,000 years ago, made of pebbles and sand inside which 2,200 remains of bones and over 1,500 lithic exhibits in all, were found and which because of the fluvial character of the deposits were found in a secondary deposit.
